BALIK KAMPUNG TO GEYLANG
Spent an afternoon at Pasar Baru Geylang . This temporary market houses the wet and the dry market of the old Geylang market which had been demolished.
At the wet market, housewives would buy fish, meat and vgetables. The dry market section has a lot of food stalls and the other half of it is where you can find clothings, batik, accessories and rainbow-coloured scarfs being sold.
The original tenants of the shops would move back to a new complex when the building is completed. They would definitely be expected to pay a higher rent
So who were there to join my siblings - Yusuf, Marina and Mazy at Geylang? Yatee and her sons, Ridhuan and Yusof kept us company over tea. We had pisang goreng, keledek, ubi kayu and keropok lekor with teh tarik. It was a back to basic tea-time and a balik kampung visit to Geylang where all of us were brought up in the 70's and 80's.
