EDUCATION AND CAREER GUIDANCE CONFERENCE

Attended this two-day conference with some colleagues and lo and behold met several ex-colleagues and former YSS student, Heikal who has also joined the teaching fraternity. So proud of him! Made new friends there too! What so good about attending conferences and workshops, is that you're bound to meet people with whom you have lost contact for ages. You renew the friendship and you also start fresh relationship with new acquaintances.

The conference introduced to the participants an important portal - The ECG Portal. I don't know why the acronym was chosen although it suggests that you may need some help in health and heart matters. On a serious note, the ECG portal allows students to explore their aptitude and interests through some profiling instruments and match these with career options that are opened to them. In this way, they are able to make informed decisions and work towards realising their aspirations. The portal can churn out a list of occupation choices and the background nature of these occupations too. The portal would also align the relevant courses which the students could pursue at our local or overseas institutions.

The portal is so useful and is a good tool for students to realise their academic and career goals according to their strengths, inclination, passion and interest. We are giving our students their personal password to enter the portal. We would be setting aside some time to bring them through the portal to familiarise themselves with the system and so that they would have the confidence to fulfill what they really want to do for their future.

The conference was beneficial to me too for I am now fully equipped to give my students sound advice and strong guidance with regards to their career paths and related educational courses which they want to take up to further their studies.
